Yawin Smallwood

From Worcester, Massachusetts, Smallwood was a 2x Worcester Telegram & Gazette Super Team selection, a 3x Division I All-Star and a 2x Division I Defensive MVP before committing to the University of Connecticut to play college ball.

Smallwood had a terrific career as a Husky. As a redshirt sophomore, he was a 1st team All-Big East selection, leading the Huskies with 120 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. During his junior season, he ranked 2nd in the nation in tackles, with 12.8 tackles per game, and was named to the 1st team All-AAC. During his senior season in 2014, Smallwood was on the Pre Season Watch Lists for the Butkus Award, Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and National Player of the Year.

Smallwood, 6’2″, 246 lbs, had a disappointing Combine performance, leading his draft stock to fall. He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 7th round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He has also spent time on the Tennessee Titans practice squad.

A ferocious tackler and inspiring leader on the field, Smallwood believes he has plenty of good football ahead of him. At age 26, Smallwood will join The Spring League in 2018 looking to get his once-promising NFL career back on track.
